Ricinus communis seed oil.
Characteristic
Castor oil has higher density and weaker absorbency. Castor oil softens, maintains natural moisture content. Castor oil is most suitable in relaxation massage preparations to increase the density and slow absorption.
Physical properties
A colourless to light yellow oily liquid that has practically no aroma. Relative density at +20° C: approx. 0.960 g per cm3.
Basic constituent parts
Unsaturated and saturated fatty acids – the main ingredients are ricinoleic acid, vitamins, and lecithin.
Properties & use
A thick oil that is added to massage preparations in cases in which it is necessary to increase the density and so decelerate the absorption of the massage oil (e.g. for relaxation massages). Recommended in care for the scalp and eyelashes. Used as a pigment thinner in cosmetics.
Warning
Do not use internally due to its strong laxative effects.
Contraindications
There is the possibility of individual intolerance to this vegetable oil.
