Characteristic
Macadamia oil protects, softens and regenerates the skin, helps keep it flexible and smooth, adds softness and shine to hair. Macadamia oil is well absorbed. Macadamia oil (or Macadamia nut oil) is the non-volatile oil expressed from the nut meat of the macadamia (Macadamia integrifolia) tree, a native Australian nut. Macadamia oil is in cosmetic formulations as an emollient or fragrance fixative.
Physical properties
A colourless to weak yellow oily liquid with a characteristic aroma. Relative density at +20° C: approx. 0,913 g per cm3.
Basic constituent parts
Unsaturated fatty acids – the main ingredients are oleic acid (C 18:1) at approximately 58%, palmitoleic acid (C 16:1) at approximately 22%, palmitic acid (C 16:0) at approximately 8%, and linoleic acid (C 18:2) at approximately 4%. Also contains vitamins E, A, and B.
Properties & use
Added to cosmetic and massage preparations. Protects and regenerates the skin. Also suitable as a base for hair packs. Makes hair soft and shiny.
Contraindications
There is the possibility of individual intolerance to this vegetable oil.
